Calm + Connected through moving the body, the breath, and the mind.

About Robin Penney

Helping active, thoughtful, and motivated women transform their body-mind for greater strength, mobility, and confidence and calm via smart, mindful movement.

Meet Robin Penney:

Robin has been teaching women how to gain the strength and confidence to thrive in their bodies and minds through the practice of yoga and movement for almost a decade.

She started as a yoga teacher in 2011 who knew a lot about yoga postures, but not a whole lot about functional movement and how the body actually works.

After practicing traditional yoga for several years and dealing with some structural imbalances that cropped up as a result, Robin transformed her practice to incorporate more science-based approaches to movement so that her students can enjoy their yoga practice and their real lives more fully because the body just works better!

She is a Yoga Detour Inspired teacher, is certified at the highest level with Yoga Alliance (E-RYT 500), and has studied styles such as Anusara, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Functional Yin, and more.

Robin likes to mix things up with her creative practice sequences and is known for her encouraging, supportive style of teaching and her clearly organized, step-by-step programs that break down myths, encourage a state of inquiry and trusting the intelligence of the body.  Her work gives busy, driven students permission to relax and nurture themselves fully.

When she’s not working with one-on-one with clients (either online or in socially-distanced outside settings), Robin teaches public group yoga classes online via Zoom with an emphasis on how daily routines, breathwork, functional movement, and variety is key to longevity and healthy living for women who are trying to get life and work done.

In 2015, she and her husband, architect and self-proclaimed wine geek Mark Penney, left Newfoundland, Canada to move to the sunshine of the Santa Cruz coastline in California. They live in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains in the small-ish town of Scotts Valley, with their daughter Tylar and son Sam, and their cats, Felix and Merlin.

Robin taught for several years in yoga studio environments, including Luma Yoga in Santa Cruz, California and Nova Yoga in St. John's, Newfoundland. She has led a number of international yoga retreats in places such as Costa Rica, Spain, Santorini, and Cuba. Since the onset of COVID-19 and the resulting closure of in-person studio classes and cancelled retreats, she has refocused her work solely on her private practice, and is thrilled to support the community with tools that can assist us all to make it through this challenging time.
